Co-CEO, Chief Investment Officer

Dan Roe is the Chief Investment Officer and Co-CEO of Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Inc. He has been advising clients in the financial services industry for more than 30 years. Prior to joining Budros, Ruhlin & Roe in 1996, he owned his own fee-only wealth management practice in Cincinnati, Ohio. As CIO, he chairs the Investment Committee and crafts investment communications for the firm’s clients, including regular market commentary and “Five Minutes on the Markets” multimedia presentations.

Since 2016, Dan has been recognized by Barron’s Magazine as one of the Top 100 Advisors in the United States. He has also been recognized in Barron’s Top 1,200 Financial Advisors state rankings and was named to Forbes magazine’s Best-in-State Wealth Advisor list as the highest ranked advisor in Central Ohio in 2018 and 2019.

Dan has personally been profiled in national publications including Barron’s, The Wall Street Journal and Morningstar Advisor magazine, and is widely quoted in the national media and on leading financial social media sites.

He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant, a member of the Investments & Wealth Institute, the Financial Planning Association (FPA), and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), and is a frequently requested speaker at professional conferences.

Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He is chairman of the Investment Committee and a trustee of The Catholic Foundation of Ohio, a member of Rotary Club of Upper Arlington (OH), and is active with the Phi Delta Theta Walter B. Palmer Foundation and the Salvation Army of Central Ohio.

 

John Schuman

John Schuman is the Chief Planning Officer and Co-CEO of Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Inc. As a former Certified Public Accountant (CPA), CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant, and currently licensed attorney, he adds an exceptional perspective to the firm.  John’s expertise includes estate planning and taxation, income tax, general business and succession planning, and charitable and retirement planning.

Prior to joining Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, John was a senior manager with Deloitte & Touche in its Private Client Advisory group. Previously, he practiced law with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey. He has been a featured speaker at conferences of the Columbus Bar Association, the Financial Planning Association (FPA), National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the Ohio CLE Institute, The Columbus Foundation and the International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University and a Juris Doctorate degree from Capital University Law School (summa cum laude). John is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), and the Columbus, State of Ohio, and American Bar Associations.

John is a past president of the Board of Trustees of the ALS Association Central and Southern Ohio Chapter, and a former trustee and treasurer of the Rotary Club of Upper Arlington Foundation.  He also serves as a member of the Professional Council of The Columbus Foundation and as an advisory board member of the Conway Family Business Center of Central Ohio.

Gary Marcinick

Gary is Executive Vice President of Business Development for Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, responsible for both individual and institutional new client business development.

He has enjoyed more than 30 successful years as a financial industry leader in the areas of business development and relationship management, serving executives, business owners, medical professionals and professional athletes.

Gary received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from The Ohio State University. He was a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes 1984 Big Ten Championship and Rose Bowl football team. Gary’s networking prowess has led to many years of community and philanthropic impact.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, the Board of Commissioners of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, and the Board of Directors for the Lindy Infante Foundation. He is also a life member of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Development Board. He assists and donates time to numerous other charitable organizations in Central Ohio as well.

Gary currently resides in Dublin with his wife, Jill, and they have two grown sons. Kyle graduated from Yale University and is working in Chicago, while Trevor attends and plays hockey for Babson College.

Aaron Armstrong

Aaron is a Senior Wealth Manager and member of the Board of Directors of Budros, Ruhlin & Roe.  Since joining the firm in 2001, he has advised clients in all aspects of wealth management including portfolio management, estate planning, equity compensation, tax planning, retirement planning and risk management.

He has been a guest speaker for The Catholic Foundation of Ohio, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and Young Professionals of Columbus, and has been named a Five Star Wealth Manager since 2014.

Aaron is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), and the CFA Society of Columbus.

He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant.  He earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology degree, with a major in family financial management, from The Ohio State University and a Master of Financial Economics degree from Ohio University.

Samantha Anderson, CFP ®

Samantha has been a member of the Budros, Ruhlin & Roe team since 2011. She received her Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology degree, with a major in family resource management, from The Ohio State University.

Samantha leads the firm’s women’s initiative, BRR4Women, which involves coordinating female client events, conducting internal leadership luncheons to encourage and empower female leadership within the firm, and spreading awareness in the community. She also was responsible for the launch of Budros, Ruhlin & Roe’s Women in Wealth Management Scholarship program in 2016.

Samantha received the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) New Professional Award in 2016 and was featured as a panelist at the 2016 Powerful Women Paving the Way event hosted by The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business & Entrepreneurship at Ohio Wesleyan University. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ certificant and a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA). Samantha co-chairs the Women’s Initiative Committee for NAPFA, whose mission is to attract, support, educate, and develop women as leaders within the financial advisory profession and to raise the awareness of the need for more female advisors. Samantha volunteers with The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio and is a member of the organization’s Finance and Investment Committee. She is also a WIN Advocate and Mentor for the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards’ Women’s Initiative (WIN).

In her spare time, Samantha loves to be outdoors and spend time with her husband and stepdaughter, Todd and Grace, and their two rescue dogs, Nixon and Reagan.

Chris Bartowski joined the firm in 2019 as an Associate Wealth Manager. In this role, he partners with clients to help them better understand all aspects of their financial lives, allowing them to focus on their personal and professional goals. Chris was drawn to the industry from a previous career in law that included litigating for a small firm, working at a large legal research provider, and serving in business development for a large law firm. He enjoys meeting and working with people who have various backgrounds and experiences.

Chris graduated with his JD from St. John’s University in Queens, NY and received his MBA from The Ohio State University. In his spare time, Chris can be found on the ice in adult league hockey, scuba diving or with his wife in Bexley trying to wear out their two young, active boys.

Sonia Brinkman

Portfolio Advisor

Sonia joined Budros, Ruhlin & Roe in 2008, when she was selected for the firm’s internship program. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Max M. Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, where she double- majored in finance and insurance & risk management. She spent a semester abroad studying at Universita Commerciale Luigi Bocconi School of Economics in Milan, Italy. Sonia was a member of The Ohio State University women’s tennis team from 2003 to 2007. She was a four-year Ohio State scholar-athlete and Big Ten Academic All-American. She received her Masters of Financial Economics degree from Ohio University, graduating cum laude.

Sonia was born in Moscow, Russia and her family immigrated to New York City when she was four years old. Although she loved growing up in a big city, she appreciates all that Columbus offers and couldn’t imagine raising her family anywhere else. Sonia and her family live in Bexley and she takes any opportunity to spend time with her kids, including travelling with them. She is also very passionate about LifeTown, an organization that helps children with disabilities learn life skills in a safe environment. She serves on the Junior Advisory Board and Advisory Council for LifeTown.

Danny joined Budros, Ruhlin & Roe in 1998.  He holds Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant and a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy with over 24 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Danny’s expertise lies in complex personal financial planning topics including cash flow/retirement, risk management, estate and wealth transfer, income and estate taxes, and portfolio management.  He leads a planning team in the delivery of these services to clients and serves on the firm’s Financial Planning and Compliance committees.

He has been named a Five Star Wealth Manager annually since 2014.

Before joining Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Danny worked with institutional retirement clients at Fidelity Investments.  He also delivered fee-only financial planning service to the middle-income market as a Principal of Sound Futures, Inc.

He is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the Financial Planning Association (FPA), and the Professional Advisory Council of The Columbus Foundation.   He currently volunteers for Junior Achievement of Central Ohio and has previously served on the Board of Directors for the Central Ohio chapter of the Financial Planning Association and the Alumni Board for Berea College.

Ryan is a Wealth Manager and joined the firm in 2012. In this role, he helps clients develop a financial plan and provides salient advice as their lives change along the way. Ryan most enjoys turning complex financial situations into direct, actionable plans toward clients’ goals. He likes the daily challenges and ever-changing environment of the wealth management industry.

Ryan is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and National Association of Personal Finance Advisors (NAPFA). He volunteers as a pro bono financial planner for Family Reach, an organization that helps families affected by cancer diagnoses. Ryan is also an active member of St. Colman of Cloyne Catholic Church.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Financial Economics from Capital University. Ryan and his wife have two boys, and he enjoys family time, traveling, hiking, and listening to audiobooks and podcasts during his commutes.

Dylan is a Wealth Manager with Budros, Ruhlin & Roe. He has extensive experience in assisting clients with complex personal financial planning topics, including retirement planning, risk management, estate planning and portfolio management.

He has enjoyed more than 15 successful years in the financial services industry and joined Budros, Ruhlin & Roe in 2019. In previous roles, Dylan held his securities 7, 63 and 66 licenses.

Dylan holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Northern Kentucky University, a Master of Science in Family Financial Planning from Oklahoma State University and MBA from the University of Notre Dame.

He currently resides in Dublin with his wife, Natalie, and their four daughters. Dylan and Natalie are very involved in their children’s activities, their church and the community.

Scott is a Senior Wealth Manager at Budros, Ruhlin & Roe. He has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, the last 11 of which have been with Budros, Ruhlin & Roe. Prior to joining Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Scott worked with a smaller fee-only financial planning firm, as well as a state retirement system.

He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant, and a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA). Scott also serves on the Board of Directors for Leadership UA (Upper Arlington, Ohio).

Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology degree in family resource management from The Ohio State University, where he graduated magna cum laude.

He was born in Findlay, Ohio and graduated from Findlay High School.

As a Senior Wealth Manager at Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Michael knows that achieving financial independence takes time and sacrifice.  He is passionate about helping his clients maximize, protect and ultimately, enjoy the culmination of their life’s work.  He consistently leverages his 20+ years of experience in the financial services industry to assist clients in all facets of personal finance, including portfolio management, retirement planning, estate planning, tax planning and risk management.

Michael joined Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Inc., in 2004 after spending six years with a large mutual fund services firm.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant.  He is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and the Worthington Estate Planning Council.  He was named a Five Star Wealth Manager* in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Originally from Northeast Ohio, Michael now resides in Dublin with his wife, two sons and their dog, Rocky.  When not in the office, you can usually find him on a walk with Rocky, attending his sons’ games, working on a small home improvement project, or in his driveway, still trying to perfect his jump shot.

Jessica Lee joined Budros, Ruhlin & Roe in 2002 and now serves as a Senior Portfolio Advisor.  In this role, she leads the Portfolio Management Team with her extensive experience providing clients and their families with investment advisory services.

Jessica began her career in 1998 with Neuberger Berman, Inc. after graduating from The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Bachelor of Arts in Biology.

She was named a Five Star Wealth Manager in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Jessica was born in Seoul, Korea but grew up in Long Island, New York.  She relocated to Columbus in 2001.

Associate Wealth Manager

Michaela Loveday has been with Budros, Ruhlin & Roe since 2018. In her role as Assistant Wealth Manager, she analyzes client strategies and plans and works with the team in preparation for client meetings. She received her Certified Financial Planner (CFP ®) designation in 2020, at a much younger age than the majority of certificants in the industry.

Michaela was the first recipient of the Peggy M. Ruhlin Women in Wealth Management Scholarship & Internship. With a passion for mentoring college students and making the field of wealth management known as a potential career path, she leads the firm candidate recruitment and selection for the scholarship program.

She graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and Accounting, with a minor in Financial Planning and a CPA concentration. Michaela grew up in Mount Dora, Florida and currently resides in Urbana, Ohio. On the weekends, you will catch her playing in Spikeball tournaments all over the country, continuing a passion from college.

John has been a member of the Budros, Ruhlin & Roe team since 1998.  Prior to then, he worked as a Senior Financial Analyst for Huntington Bancshares, Inc., and before that as a staff accountant for Crowe, Chizek & Co.  He is a Certified Public Accountant, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant and a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy.  John received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from The Ohio State University.

John manages a team of planners and has extensive experience helping clients discover, establish and achieve their financial goals. While proficient in all areas of wealth management, John specializes in multi-generational wealth transfers and philanthropic gifting strategies. He was named a Five Star Wealth Manager* in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

John is originally from Cleveland, Ohio.  Here in Columbus, he volunteers his time with various local charities like Flying Horse Farms, and loves to take his sons with him when he delivers Meals-on-Wheels.  He is on the Finance Committee at LifeCare Alliance and is part of the Professional Advisors Group for The Catholic Foundation of Ohio.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Consumer and Family Financial Services from The Ohio State University. Kyle and his wife are expecting their first child, and they enjoy hiking with their two dogs, golfing, bike riding and visiting National Parks.

Eric Shisler, CFA, AIF ®

Vice President, Director of Research and Retirement Plan Services

Eric brings 30 years of investment industry experience to the client-centric portfolio management process at Budros, Ruhlin & Roe. He started his career at a regional investment bank as a securities trader and institutional broker. Following his work as a bank trust department portfolio manager, Eric has spent the last 15+ years researching global economies, markets, asset classes, and managers to help clients achieve their investment objectives. That investment experience and his fiduciary-minded approach to portfolio management also drive the firm’s Retirement Plan Services’ plan consulting and participant education.

Eric received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Bucknell University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and an Accredited Investment Fiduciary designee. He is a member of the CFA Society of Columbus, the CFA Institute, the Financial Planning Association (FPA), and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).

Eric actively serves the community and his church. After years of playing and coaching lacrosse, Eric remains involved as a certified men’s lacrosse referee.

Isaiah Stidham, CPA, CFP ®, CEPA

Isaiah joined Budros, Ruhlin & Roe in 2012 and now serves as a Senior Wealth Manager and Business Succession Lead. In addition to aiding clients in a wealth management capacity, Isaiah has a passion for helping business owners navigate their unique and complicated situations.

Isaiah began his career in public accounting where he specialized in tax compliance and planning for high-net worth individuals, estates, trusts and family-owned businesses.

Isaiah serves on the advisory boards for The Entrepreneurship Institute (TEI) and the Conway Center for Family Business and is a founding member of the Exit Planning Institute Central Ohio Chapter. He is an active speaker on today’s most critical topics for business owners and succession planning, having presented to the Entrepreneurs Association, Women Presidents’ Organization, Financial Planning Association of Columbus, TEI Presidents’ Forum and the Worthington, Columbus, Central Ohio and Tri County Estate Planning Councils.

After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Otterbein University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Isaiah went on to obtain a Master of Accounting degree through The Ohio State University’s Max M. Fisher College of Business. Isaiah is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificant, a Certified Public Accountant and holds the Certified Exit Planning Advisor designation.

Isaiah currently resides in Westerville, Ohio with his wife and three children. An avid golfer himself, Isaiah has enjoyed watching his children take up the sport.

Matt Ullmer

Portfolio Advisor

Matt joined Budros, Ruhlin, & Roe in 2013 and is a Portfolio Advisor. In this role, he oversees all aspects of investments for client portfolios. Prior to joining BRR, Matt worked at Nationwide and J.P. Morgan, working in retirement planning and asset management. He is currently pursuing the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Family Resource Management from The Ohio State University, with a minor in economics. While at Ohio State, Matt served as a team manager for the men’s basketball team.

Matt grew up in Centerville, Ohio and currently resides in Upper Arlington with his wife and two daughters.
